The spring equinox, which occurs around March 19–21, is a celestial event when day and night are nearly equal in length across the globe. This happens because the Earth’s axis isn’t tilted toward or away from the sun, creating a perfect balance of light.
For centuries, cultures have celebrated the equinox as a symbol of renewal, from ancient Egyptian rituals to modern festivals like Japan’s Shunbun no Hi. In some places, the equinox even brings strange effects, such as the serpent shadow on Mexico’s El Castillo pyramid, which only appears on this day!
With longer days ahead, the spring equinox reminds us that warmer weather and fresh beginnings are just around the corner!
